On the day itself, more than 6,000 officers will line the route — some dressed in plain clothes and embedded with the crowds. And another 7,000 stewards will help with general crowd control.
Close Protection supplied fewer than 300 of the 7000 stewards. They were treated abominably. Much worse, many of them were on no pay or £2.80ph.
Now, can anyone tell us what all the other stewards were paid, and how they were treated?
Because the taxpayer handed over about £1.5mn to pay for stewarding and I’d like to know if any of it at all went to the stewards
Because, unfortunate as the CP people’s experience was, I’m far more concerned about the £7n a year being given by DWP to thousands of organisations who provide unpaid workers to charity shops, gyms, event management, office cleaners, and hospitals.
