“When critical care nurse Nicola Kitchin posted this image of complicated medical equipment to Facebook, she struck a nerve with NHS supporters the world over.
The 37-year-old, from Worcester, threw down the gauntlet to Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt, daring him to keep the flashing intensive care apparatus going for 60 minutes.
Married mum-of-two Nicola, who has had to take a second job to look after her family, said it is “heart-breaking” nurses are leaving the profession because of poor pay. Nicola, who lives in Worcester, said: “When I saw the picture it really struck a nerve with me.
“I just thought you know what, come and have a go and see how you do for an hour – let alone a 12-and-a-half hour shift.
