The Labour Mayor confirmed enhanced coronavirus testing will be carried out in parts of Ealing, Haringey and Merton.
He urged people over the age of 16 in the W7, N17 and CR4 postcodes to get tested even if they do not have any symptoms.
He wrote on Twitter: “The Covid-19 variant first discovered in South Africa has been identified in a small number of areas across the country, including London.
“Enhanced testing will now be carried out in three postcode areas of W7 in Ealing, N17 in Haringey and CR4 in Merton.”
