The symbol goes back to Kabbalah Teaching – the mystical heart – the heart that understands knowledge. They are indicating their push for the higher levels of knowledge. In Freemasonry they talk about the same stuff. Aspiring to find ”hidden knowledge” and pretty soon one finds oneself with an Aleister Crowley moment. And you thought you were looking at Saint Theresa – Right?
