My ex was a staff nurse and now a sister on a hospital ward, she has said many times that the fault lies with the over paid management teams who consistently fail to plan properly every year. She and many of her colleagues say that there should be a purge on many of the managers in the NHS as they simply are not up to the job and are a costly waste of space. They also say that despite what some ignorant politicians, especially those on the left say, huge population rises in a short period of time has put huge burdens on the NHS as well as housing, educations etc,
I agree with them wholeheartedly. when will some people open their eyes.?

“She needs to make sure it doesn’t happen in the first place.” Um, no. That’s what we employ managers for. If it was private company the managers would be out on their ears.

And BTW, what about all those lovely new facilities, paid for by Labour’s outrageously expensive PFI’s, with far fewer beds. To a non-clinical bureaucrat the contingency of an empty ward on stand-by is seen as a waste of space and money, which they would rather see spent on diversity commissars.

Need to put some nurses in the board and some regular everyday people with logic. Nhs will be fine after about 5 -10 yrs. Ohh, and go after boris and farage for their 350 mill per week to the nhs money. Just hope they weren’t telling bedtime story to the british people.

Plus policy of closing centralised social care facilities replacing with community care and having no formal link with NHS..which has now been systematically robbed of funding..

Jan Filochowski – was in charge of West Hertfordshire NHS trust when 810 patients suspected of having cancer were wrongly discharged between 2010 and 2013 due to administrative errors.

And we wonder why we have problems ..the executive has failed for decades across all parties to look at long term planning and have jumped from one personal hobby horse to another plus party politics .. We spend more money on less facilities somebody needs to educate us all on how the NHD did work and what it does now, so we can have national debate on it …
i am sure its very complicated and the above is too simplistic but we need simple clear explanations..

You have hit the nail on the head. 15 Years ago a the Chief executive at a large teaching hospital was having serious adverse publicity. The CE suddenly appeared to be fired according to media reports, but digging around a month later, I found he had simply swapped positions with another hospital.
They are fire proof for some reason.

GW: West Herts NHS Trust’s – Jan Filochowski by any chance?
