Minister bans Onward Christian Soldiers from funeral for not being politically correct

”A MINISTER refused to allow Onward Christian Soldiers to be sung at a funeral because she claimed it was not “politically correct”.

William Thomas, 70, said his sister-in-law Agnes Thomas’s dying wish was that the hymn should be included at her funeral.

But he claimed the Reverend Sarah Nicol, of Kirn Parish Church in Dunoon, Argyll, refused the request.

Retired engineer William, of Eastwood, near Glasgow, said: “Agnes had requested how she wanted her funeral to be.

“Her favourite hymn was Onward Christian Soldiers. Her husband – my brother – had the same hymn at his funeral.

“The minister refused to allow this hymn to be sung as it was, in her words, ‘not politically correct’.

“She also informed us that this hymn has been removed from the Church Of Scotland’s hymn book because of the reference to war.”

The service for Agnes, who lived in Dunoon, was held at Greenock Crematorium in Renfrewshire.”
