The scheme is quite insane. With a critical housing shortage, taking more accommodation off the market using NHS funds to pay for it, is quite bizarre.

GW:  Full Stop to that!

We live in selfish times.
Families do not take responsibility for sick relations any more.
Inner city investment gets votes.
Bring back community hospitals, those establishments that were there for this exact reason.

Wow. I created a business model where I was going to fly NHS patients out to our clinic in Madrid so that they could beat waiting times for hip and knee replacements, it would have saved the NHS a fortune and the patients pain and suffering. Couldn’t get the CCG to approve it though, too much red tape. Now they are happy to send patients to residential houses? You couldn´t make this up! If the NHS were better run, by people who had its best interests in mind, it could do so on half its annual budget.

This will end up with people using it as a money-maker. Dodgy landlords are us.

So why can’t they have this remote care in their own homes?.. if the host is not assuming any caring responsibilities???

A stupid Tory Government idea!
Whoever thought this up needs sacking! What happens when there’s a cardiac arrest?! If they wanna save money, sack Jeremy Hunt….

If these are patients who qualify for home support and are kept in hospital because of a lack of home care, they will need more than 3 microwaved meals and a bit of conversation – this is a 24 hour commitment, although I daresay the ‘Pilot’ scheme will tell us otherwise to get the public onboard. Supposing the patient has mobility issues and needs the toilet in the middle of the night – wet spare bed, wet carpet or the ‘Host Carer’ on call during the night? Supposing hoists and mobility aids are needed – the Host will need training in manual handling from Care Rooms and NHS to the Host. And how about legal liability – the care sector is beset with form filling, box ticking, regulation and adherence – is the Host Carer going to be doing this for £50-£75 a day? But most importantly, there is the risk of hospital born infections entering the home – I’m thinking particularly of CDiff – the elderly are particularly susceptible and the spores are next to impossible to remove, living on surfaces for up to 18 months CDiff can be a killer, I know because it was the Primary cause of my mother’s death. Also bear in mind – at £50-£75 a day on 24 hour call, you would be paid £2 -3 an hour!
