”Sarah’s home would be familiar to Orwell – a slum with no heating, infestations, riddled with damp and desperately cramped.
Her nine-year-old daughter shares a tiny sleeping space with mum and dad. “Her teachers have started to notice problems,” Sarah says.”

“They have three kids and are expecting their fourth.”
Children are a privilege, not a right. If it wasn’t for scroungers expecting others to find their lifestyle choices the welfare state could fulfill the purpose for which it was intended, namely to provide a reasonable standard of living for those in need, for however long they are in need.
Until we get people to understand that you work to earn to pay for what you want, those who are in genuine need will continue to suffer. Whilstever socialist newspapers continue to spout support for the feckless, and portray them as victims, our welfare system will never be able to provide the reasonable standard of living that many deserve.

So what about those people in employment, so suddenly lose their jobs & have 4 kids or more. Are they meant to push them back into the womb, because they can no longer afford to have them?
TobyMack
No, that would make someone in need; therefore as per my post they should be supported by the welfare state.
Most likely, someone who could afford to support 4 children in the first place would soon find themselves back in employment and therefore only require support in the short term.
Unfortunately we can’t afford this as the welfare state bill is bloated in support of the feckless who see nothing wrong with popping out brats because they are happy to live in squalor as long as everyone else pays for them to do so and they can be portrayed as victims by socialist idealists like Corbyn.
The welfare state is about need, not want. We’d be a much kinder society if we stopped encouraging the something for nothing attitude that exists today and impacts those who we genuinely should be providing with support and a reasonable standard of living.
ColinDavies
Also, what about the Tory government? It’s about want not need. They want all the money, but the suffering poor need it.
That’s the problem here, there’s more than enough money circulating around the UK. I mean, we’re meant to be one of the richest country’s in the world aren’t we?
Bloated welfare bill? Please don’t make me laugh HA HA! If anything, the welfare bill’s one of the lowest ever under this Tory regime. If you want to talk about bloated, just take a look at the house of commons (on the Tory benches).
GW: Both of these commentators are correct. Colin says that the UK is not a third world country and that is true. Toby says that UK taxpayers can’t afford a ”bloated welfare bill” and that is also correct. Toby’s point about the couple churning out children on a limited income is also relevant as it is ultimately the parents’ responsibility to make sure they can provide for children BEFORE they have them. It is not OUR responsibility to raise THEIR children. One thing in the mother’s favour is that she is scrupulously clean even though it’s a horrible 1 bed rental.
