The NASUWT teaching union said it secured £7.7m compensation for injury from teachers’ employers for its members during the past 12 months.

A teacher who suffered psychological trauma after she was headbutted by an unruly pupil in a classroom has been awarded nearly £100,000 in compensation.

The NASUWT teaching union said it secured £7.7m compensation for injury from teachers’ employers for its members during the past 12 months.

This was a 72% increase on £6.1m in compensation won for its members in 2015, up from £9.8m and £0.7m in 2014 and 2013, respectively.
