“Lord Heseltine on Boris:
“I have never seen anything like it. He’s ripped the Tory Party apart, he has created the greatest constitutional crisis in peacetime in my life.
“He’s knocked billions off the value of the savings of the British people. He’s like a general who marches his army to the sound of the guns and the moment he sees the battleground he abandons it.
“I have never seen anything like it and he must be answerable for the consequences. But the pain of it will be felt by all of us and, if it doesn’t get resolved shortly, by a generation yet to come.””
A Tory MP has just been forced to deny Rupert Murdoch was behind today’s shock pulling out by Boris Johnson.
It comes after Michael Gove’s wife sent a leaked e-mail yesterday warning the newspaper mogul “instinctively dislikes Boris”.
She claimed he and Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre would be more likely to back a Boris candidacy if he was backed up by Mr Gove.
Mr Gove then declared he was standing this morning – followed promptly by Boris pulling out.
Conservative MP Andrew Mitchell: ‘I do not think Rupert Murdoch owns the Conservative Party’
Tory former International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell was asked if Rupert Murdoch was responsible by BBC News.
He replied: “In spite of views to the contrary I do not think Rupert Murdoch owns the Conservative Party or runs our country.
“[Editors] are entitled to their beliefs. Would that have a critical effect? I don’t believe it would.”
Boris Johnson abandoned the Tory leadership race in a spectacularly unexpected move this morning.
MR Comment: We should be very, very frightened. There is the comparatively minor issue of Gove being Murdoch’s puppet: not good for Parliamentary democracy. Then we face the probability of an extremist right-wing government of unutterable nastiness. Gove, a sociopath, eschews reason, (detests experts, so I suppose he never goes to the doctor) and is entirely dogmatic. A zealot leading other zealots, Gove, who oddly resembles Goebbels, would preside over a country where racism has been unleashed, and where the economic catastrophe in waiting will result in mobs of the disaffected venting their frustration not on the actual but perceived causes of their misfortune. These will be immigrants, and people with brown or black complexions. As a result of comparable developments in the Germany of the ’30s most of the people who would have been my relatives ended up murdered. I have a nightmarish feeling in my bones that we’re going to see something comparable here.
To fix a fault in his party, Cameron sacrificed the country. This is an unspeakable crime.
GW: Good Lord! The ToriCon dirty washing has blown off the washing line and is lodged in shrubbery; is lurking in alleyways; is on their neighbours’ front lawns; and even dangling from mobile phone masts! What a shamozz! Where’s that bloody washerwoman?
DER Comment: Ken Clarke is of the Heseltine clan the ”Establishment”secrets and all – he was very much against leaving the EU & of course the biased BBC gives him airtime
