GovWatch has recently become acquanited with MapWatch and the encounter has been quite enlightening.
The whole question regarding the maps of the ancients kicked off for him with information from a friend in South Africa it seems. MapWatch was wondering why there is a big region of this particular specimen stitched over and why there is damage on the side where Germany should be.
The wider issue is that the ancients quite often mapped within a circle whereas we map in a rectangle. In addition, the ancients included extra useful information on their maps whereas we just put physical features, boundaries and place names only. An extremely interesting topic as some maintain that our maps are actually upside down. Whew NLAT, time for lunch. Btw here’s your Christmas card from The Greenhouse.
