‘David Cameron: dumping his support for sexually abused kids?’
In March this Berkhamstead Blogger became concerned about the inadequate support given to abuse victims who were going through really tough times giving evidence to police. He highlighted a Mirror article http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/vip-child-sex-ring-victims-1768956 and another from EXaro http://www.exaronews.com/articles/4897/witnesses-in-operation-fernbridge-plead-for-support-service
He noted that in 2002 a Report was produced for the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee on which Cameron sat with another backbencher Tom Watson. http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200102/cmselect/cmhaff/836/83602.htm They duly received and signed this report he says.
‘One of the key recommendations of the report was that when the police ” trawl” for abuse victims and witnesses those who are interviewed should get support from day one.’ His concerns led him to write to Cameron about the lack of support being offered including some harrowing quotes from a couple of victims who had recently been interviewed in relation to Elm Guest House. He got back a standard acknowledgement that abuse was a terrible thing etc but no real promise to improve the current state of affairs.
Cameron has apparently ‘moved on’ as the matter was surely signed off in 2002. Never mind that the police are now doing a ‘full on’ trying to bring perps to justice for us. Oh hold on, that would be quite a number of Tory folk wouldn’t it. Lifts carpet and brushes all the victims under it. Then walks back and forth trying to flatten the lumps.
GovWatch applauds BBs efforts and has had similar missives from DC in the past and from Con MP Watford as well.
Despite having feckless Parliamentary Reps, Hertfordians do care and do try to get something done but are thwarted by these failing representatives.
